AS: “I found this bird skeleton in a field behind the library, but it wasn’t really ready yet, you know? I have so many snake vertebrae, too many really, I need some more bird femurs if I’m going to have this trunk show ready by September.”

RB: “Femurs, like for those double-sided-ladder Neck Pieces, with the gold chain, yeah? I want to help you find these femurs.”

AS: “Ted and I walked for a few hours along the road to Alpine, I guess he had done it a few days earlier, walked the whole 28 miles and he came across this incredible pile of skeletons, so he wanted to bring me back to it. We found it, it was just this extraordinary graveyard in the desert, I don’t know why they all died there. So many pig skulls.”

CH: “Do you guys want me to wear this red bra under the swimsuit?”

RB: “I think it’s wise, let me show you how to lay down, with your head on the concrete, Like This: : See? So you’re letting these bones hang over the edge, and your Zebra Print Finger Nails are resting against your belly, and your eyes are looking right up at that Rust Spot, this is what we came for, I am pretty sure.”

AS: “ALIGNMENT.”

Boots shined, wits gathered, canteens filled, genius-friends Celestine Cooney and Boo George embarked today on a seven day tour of Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.A.

Having flown their home coop of London, England, the two inspired vigilantes will spend the next half-fortnight à la Pickup Truck, careening down dusty roads, rolling through fields of kudzu, knoshing all things Bar-Be-Que and Deep-Fried, mingling with Capote-Muses, coercing the gentle Southerners into ethereal portraiture. The empyrean Celestine will be dressing these noble inhabitants in Blues, brave-heart Boo will be commemorating their essence en Film, the two will emerge from this meat-and-magnolia-scented endeavor bearing the mark of KENTUCKY on their breasts, forever, what will it look like? Amid the chaos of that day, when all I could hear was the thunder of gunshots, and all I could smell was the violence in the air, I look back and am amazed that my thoughts were so clear and true, that three words went through my mind endlessly, repeating themselves like a broken record: you’re so cool, you’re so cool, you’re so cool. And sometimes Clarence asks me what I would have done if he had died, if that bullet had been two inches more to the left. To this, I always smile, as if I’m not going to satisfy him with a response. But I always do. I tell him of how I would want to die, but that the anguish and the want of death would fade like the stars at dawn, and that things would be much as they are now. Perhaps. Except maybe I wouldn’t have named our son Elvis.

Beat Boy

The first of a handful of mini-films I’ve made, documenting a recent adventure into the Hallowed Grounds of Death Valley. Accompanied by two Ethereal Femmes, I trip-traipsed my way through this desert’s endless salty dunes and crystalline clouds, waking each morning to White Light and mineral powder coating my skin. Minds were blown, petticoats torn, whole histories rewritten! Please watch this film, it was made with the dirt-and-incense resolve of four Wild Mustangs and an Opera-House Poltergeist.*
